Eddie Floyd – “Ninety Nine and a Half”
Soul music legend Eddie Floyd has been singing, recording and touring for something like five decades, and the man shows no sign of letting up today. This classic recording of “Ninety-Nine and a Half” is pure molten gold – just puts a lot of more contemporary records flat to shame, I’m afraid. Probably best known for “Knock On Wood” – a song he co-wrote with Steve Cropper which was a hit in 1966 and subsequently covered by like a hundred major artists, some of whom also charted with it – Eddie Floyd is a real as real gets. Listen to his voice on this, and then tell me how you feel about the auto-tuned piffle that’s so prevalent these days. This is a gr8 record you should have at the ready, to heat up those cold winter nights.

Barkays – “Holy Ghost”
Boo! Ok, one of the gr8est rhythm sections in the history of recorded music, rockin’ it heavy. Trick or treat? The answer is: both. Bust this and watch your ghouly guests go completely mad.

The Bar-Kays – “Holy Ghost”
Did I really just find a new track by The Bar-Kays?! I did? Pinch me! I have a special place in my heart for this legendary Memphis band. Starting their run in the mid 60′s backing Otis Redding and other GR8 singers on Stax Records, the Bar-Kays ultimately influenced the evolution of soul, R&B, funk and rock and roll music, while overcoming some unimaginable tragedies along the way. This recent single is true to form, with that easy solid groove, luscious keyboards, and rapturous horn lines and vocals that put them at the top of the charts repeatedly – and as a footnote, won them a spot in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. This song has everything that is missing from the hyper-commercial pap of today. Sincerity and talent, to begin with. What a sweet lyric, and the rap bridge in the middle works perfectly. This music makes me smile.

Jerry Butler – “He Don’t Love You Like I Love You”
The great Jerry Butler revisits his hit song
“He Don’t Love You Like I Love You” and takes it higher with the wisdom of a man who has lived it all at least twice. And the lyrics – “he’s had so many rehearsals” – I mean give me a break! This is a top flight old school song by a class performer and a truly great singer. Hats off to Jerry Butler.

Music is my passion, and I bask in its sonic glow everyday. There has been so much stupendous music made recently, regardless of the shriveling record industry.
This GR8 music has somehow been ignored and relegated to a second-class status it honestly doesn’t deserve. Being the uber-fan that I am, I found it necessary to blog about this attention-worthy music. Because of my immense passion, I feel like it’s my sole responsibility to take you directly to as much of this music as I can find. I just want to share the fun with fellow music lovers, while helping the music creators.
I have found a free legal MP3 download for each song I post. The artist approves of the free download. These artists hope you like their music enough to buy some. If you don’t, the artist still thanks you for taking the time to listen to their music.
Makes sense, right?
So I’m Superfan.
I give you a link to free legal MP3s, and I get to help spread the word for artists.
If you don’t find any music you love, you’ll get your money back. Guaranteed!

From the time I discovered there was a world of great music seething beyond my brother’s record collection, I have spent the majority of my energy exploring music that is new to me. I grew up listening to hip-hop, electronic and jazz. By the time I was 14 I started bedroom DJing. During high school I started my perpetual mixtape quest. Eventually I amassed enough gear and dirty-used records to turn what should have been a laundry room into a home studio. Two of my songs where deemed worthy enough to be included in Fun Fun Fun Recording’s
Mp3 Jackpot Winners Vol. 1 –
“Meditations (by a father)” and
“Sick“. It was during that exciting time that I first heard of the MP3 format. I immediately saw how artists like myself would be able to exploit the new technology as a vehicle for delivering music straight to music lovers. Subverse2ten is the latest medium that I use for discovering, filtering and distributing new music to music fans who find themselves always slightly ahead of the curve. I still hold the same enthusiasm and love of new music as I did when I was a kid. I hope you enjoy the music you find here as much as I do.

Survival Oakland

In a time and place where virtual hustle has devolved into clicks, plays and arbitrary photos of youngsters portraying something they’re NOT, Survival’s blog serves as ground zero for post-modern metalism. Metalism, that sonic punch that, when it hit, you missed. Then when it hit again, you still missed.
Instead of adding this site to your friend’s list and continuing some miniscule internet existence in a virtually impoverished ghetto of media, just hit up this page to hear some of the heaviest, crunchiest shit that indies, majors, and nobodies are offering in the Bay, the Nation, and Beyond – for Free.
Survival is a speed, thrash, groove, power, sex, pain metal group from the Bay Area started in 2009.
The style grows from the classic bay area speed metal sound, but with more eccentric and enigmatic energy to bruise your receptors.
