Mile Marker 7 lays down a subtle milstone

Mile Marker 7 – “Here We Go”

This song really floats my boat. Kinda almost jam band-y slacker zen self-help advice. I mean that in a good way! Acoustic reggae-ish bouncy funky rock, and there’s even a hint of that Jerry Garcia guitar effect for you footbagging hitch-hikers. Enjoy the ride and don’t get too hung up on the little stuff.

Black Cock pulls “A Fast One”

Black Cock – “A Fast One”

That’s a Rooster Noir, silly, get your mind out of the gutter.  With Robot Child With a God Complex being the name of their album, I guessed their lyrics would be fun and confrontational as well. This track doesn’t dissapoint in that regard. Oedipal crazed nightmarish wet dream. Musically original and bizarre. New wave gone to an insane asylum. Pogo in a strait jacket.

Betty Davis’ groundbreaking sexy funk

Betty Davis – “Anti Love Song”

Among the many amazing re-issues on the wonderful Light In The Attic label is this super hot record from Betty Davis. To get an idea who this singer is and how she’s regarded, here are some quotes from a few of her admirers:

*If Betty were singing today she would be something like Madonna, something like Prince only as a woman. (Miles Davis)
* She introduced Miles to Hendrix’s music and got him interested in the hardcore rock stuff. (Herbie Hancock)
* When I first saw her album cover, I fell in love. (Rick James)
* Warning: She is pure uncut funk way ahead of her time. (Prince Paul) (De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School)
* She was the first Madonna, but Madonna is more like Marie Osmond compared to Betty Davis. (Santana)

It’s Monk Time!

The Monks – “It’s Monk Time”

Behold the improbable brilliance of The Monks. They were five beat playing American GIs stationed in Germany in the mid 60s. They stayed together as a group after their discharges from the service, and made some ground breaking recordings which ultimately influenced later garage rockers from Nirvana to the White Stripes to Radiohead and many more. They are one of those “missing link” bands – not particularly famous in their own right, but hugely respected and important to musicians and fans in the know. Monk Time is an anti-war anthem unlike any other.

Music is my passion, and I bask in its sonic glow everyday. There has been so much stupendous music made recently, regardless of the shriveling record industry.

This GR8 music has somehow been ignored and relegated to a second-class status it honestly doesn’t deserve. Being the uber-fan that I am, I found it necessary to blog about this attention-worthy music. Because of my immense passion, I feel like it’s my sole responsibility to take you directly to as much of this music as I can find. I just want to share the fun with fellow music lovers, while helping the music creators.

I have found a free legal MP3 download for each song I post. The artist approves of the free download. These artists hope you like their music enough to buy some. If you don’t, the artist still thanks you for taking the time to listen to their music.

Makes sense, right?

So I’m Superfan.

I give you a link to free legal MP3s, and I get to help spread the word for artists.

If you don’t find any music you love, you’ll get your money back. Guaranteed!

Dan Della Ripa, AKA Subverse

From the time I discovered there was a world of great music seething beyond my brother’s record collection, I have spent the majority of my energy exploring music that is new to me. I grew up listening to hip-hop, electronic and jazz. By the time I was 14 I started bedroom DJing. During high school I started my perpetual mixtape quest. Eventually I amassed enough gear and dirty-used records to turn what should have been a laundry room into a home studio. Two of my songs where deemed worthy enough to be included in Fun Fun Fun Recording’s Mp3 Jackpot Winners Vol. 1“Meditations (by a father)” and “Sick“. It was during that exciting time that I first heard of the MP3 format. I immediately saw how artists like myself would be able to exploit the new technology as a vehicle for delivering music straight to music lovers. Subverse2ten is the latest medium that I use for discovering, filtering and distributing new music to music fans who find themselves always slightly ahead of the curve. I still hold the same enthusiasm and love of new music as I did when I was a kid. I hope you enjoy the music you find here as much as I do.

Helping create and introducing new music is my greatest joy. I founded Beserkley Records, and Fun Fun Fun Recordings to do just that. All the bloggers at Music2ten.com are recording artists @ Funfunfunrecordings.com. I am truly proud of all the music at Fun Fun Fun, and I hope you check out the music, maybe even buy some.

I am also a recording artist @ Fun Fun Fun. That helps me understand the need for exposure sites like this one. Check out my ode to the radio on MP3Jackpot Winners.

Survival Oakland

www.survivaloakland2ten.com In a time and place where virtual hustle has devolved into clicks, plays and arbitrary photos of youngsters portraying something they’re NOT, Survival’s blog serves as ground zero for post-modern metalism. Metalism, that sonic punch that, when it hit, you missed. Then when it hit again, you still missed.

Instead of adding this site to your friend’s list and continuing some miniscule internet existence in a virtually impoverished ghetto of media, just hit up this page to hear some of the heaviest, crunchiest shit that indies, majors, and nobodies are offering in the Bay, the Nation, and Beyond – for Free.

Survival is a speed, thrash, groove, power, sex, pain metal group from the Bay Area started in 2009.

The style grows from the classic bay area speed metal sound, but with more eccentric and enigmatic energy to bruise your receptors.

Visit Survival on myspace or IMEEM for shows, merch, and updates.
